The Road To Hana is legendary. With all of its sights and sounds, it’s hard to pick a favorite along this route of adventure. Spectacular vistas, narrow hair-pin turns that hide the next unbelievable natural attraction, and the local Hawaiian people are just some of the reasons to take this journey. Each mile brings new experiences and stops that reveal why so many people gravitate to the Pacific to see all that the Islands of Hawaii have to offer.
And then….we pulled into Wai’anapanapa State Park….try saying that three times fast! And then we saw this:
A black sand beach that stops you in your tracks! Keep scrolling because the views get better!
It’s hard to put into words the sheer emotion experienced from that first view of the shimmering black sand…in an instant, we were reminded of the ancient origins of Hawaii!
The origins and makeup of these glistening remnants of volcanic eruptions are explained in a great article over here:
Maui Magazine – The Microscopic Marvel of Sand
Waiʻanapanapa State Park is also home to natural stone arches and blow holes that are active when you aren’t watching 🙂
And another view of this strikingly unique cove…we’ve got a few other tips coming….
Don’t forget the legend of the caves!
We recommend planning to spend a little time here. It’s a great place for a picnic! Make sure you pack a cooler! You can read more about the park here: Wai’anapanapa State Park
As we pulled ourselves away from this wonder of nature to venture on down the road, one couldn’t help but to reflect on the sheer surprise of this special place.
This is a top stop on The Road To Hana!
We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did!
